THE BLOOD TEST SUITE

Which blood testing do we request?

The following is a list of blood biomarkers that help us to provide more accurate assessments and ongoing treatment.

The PSA test is crucial for prostate health evaluation. Elevated PSA levels can be worrisome, leading to anxiety about potential prostate conditions, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, and prostate cancer. While it is natural to be concerned, it’s essential to understand that an elevated PSA level does not automatically mean cancer. Regular PSA screening is necessary for early detection and better treatment outcomes. If a patient’s PSA levels are abnormal, further investigations, such as a prostate biopsy, may be recommended to ascertain the underlying cause.

For male patients experiencing difficulty conceiving, FSH testing may raise concerns about their fertility. Abnormal FSH levels can create worry about the potential for reproductive issues, such as impaired sperm production. A low FSH level could indicate testicular problems, and high levels may suggest issues with the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. A comprehensive evaluation, including sperm analysis and other hormone tests, may be necessary to determine the appropriate treatment approach.

Low calcium levels can lead to osteoporosis or bone weakening, while high levels may indicate parathyroid gland dysfunction. Understanding the significance of calcium balance can help patients make lifestyle changes to support bone health, such as increasing dietary calcium intake and engaging in weight-bearing exercises.

Patients with high cortisol levels may experience anxiety due to the association with stress and the risk of conditions like Cushing’s syndrome. On the other hand, low cortisol levels can lead to symptoms like fatigue and weakness associated with Addison’s disease. Managing stress and addressing any underlying medical conditions are essential for maintaining cortisol balance and overall well-being.

B12 and folate deficiencies can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and neurological issues. Understanding the importance of these vitamins in various bodily functions can motivate patients to improve their diet or consider supplementation under medical supervision.

Electrolyte imbalances can cause muscle cramps, weakness, and abnormal heart rhythms. Patients may become concerned about their overall health and hydration status. Addressing the underlying cause, such as kidney or hormonal issues, is crucial for maintaining proper electrolyte balance.

Patients with low free testosterone levels may experience concerns about their sexual health, libido, and energy levels. Understanding the impact of testosterone on masculinity and overall well-being can motivate patients to seek appropriate treatment, such as hormone replacement therapy if needed.

An abnormal lipid profile may be affecting your cardiovascular health. For example, High cholesterol levels can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

These tests may motivate you to make lifestyle changes, such as adopting a heart-healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise, to manage lipid levels effectively.

Abnormal FT4 levels may create symptoms related to thyroid dysfunction, such as weight changes, mood swings, and fatigue. Understanding the thyroid’s role in metabolism and overall health is important and can be treated with appropriate management, which may include medication, supplementation or lifestyle adjustments.

Low ferritin levels could indicate iron deficiency and its associated symptoms like fatigue and weakness. Treatment can be as simple as dietary adjustments or iron supplementation as needed.

SHBG’s role is to regulate your sex hormones. Abnormal readings could indicate hormonal imbalances.
Abnormal SHBG levels may impact fertility, libido, and overall hormonal health.

High uric acid levels may cause gout and associated joint pain and inflammation. Lifestyle modifications, such as dietary changes and managing underlying conditions, can help control uric acid levels and reduce the risk of gout attacks.

Elevated CRP levels may indicate inflammation and its association with various health ailments. Addressing underlying inflammatory triggers, such as infections or chronic diseases, can improve patient outcomes and reduce CRP levels

Magnesium is essential for supporting muscle and nerve function. Understanding magnesium’s role in various bodily processes can encourage dietary changes and the consideration of magnesium supplements, if necessary.

High or low E2 levels may affect libido, mood, and fertility. Proper evaluation and management can lead to improved well-being.

A Full Blood Count can highlight abnormalities such as anaemia, infections, or other blood disorders. Prompt evaluation and appropriate management are crucial for maintaining optimal health.

Prolactin is essential in reproductive health and can impact fertility and libido. Abnormal levels may prompt further evaluation and treatment.

Abnormal HbA1c results are an indicator to make further assessments of your risk of diabetes.

Emphasizing the importance of glycemic control and lifestyle changes can empower patients to take charge of their diabetes care.

Low Testosterone can cause low energy, reduced muscle mass, and sexual dysfunction.  Addressing testosterone imbalances can have a significant impact on men’s overall health and quality of life.

LH is responsible for stimulating testosterone production and abnormalities can cause hormonal imbalances affecting reproductive health. Further evaluation can guide appropriate treatment options.
