Premature Ejaculation (PE) – Straight Up

Premature ejaculation (PE) happens when you climax sooner than you or your partner would like during sex. For some men, it happens almost every time; for others, it only happens occasionally. It’s the most common sexual issue men report — even more common than erectile dysfunction — affecting up to 1 in 3 men at some point in their lives.

PE can leave you feeling frustrated, embarrassed, or like you’re not in control. It can impact confidence, relationships, and overall sexual wellbeing, sometimes creating stress or avoidance around intimacy. The good news is that PE is highly treatable with the right approach — and most men see strong improvement with tailored support and treatment.

Sometimes, PE can overlap with erectile dysfunction (ED). Since erections usually go away after ejaculation, it can be tricky to know which is the main issue. Treating ED first often helps, and PE may resolve once the erection problem is addressed.

Signs and Symptoms – When to Get Checked

PE can show up in different ways. You might notice ejaculation happens sooner than you or your partner would like — sometimes almost every time, other times only occasionally. It can lead to frustration, embarrassment, or tension in your relationship and affect sexual confidence, but you’re not alone, and support is available.

Seek urgent medical help if you experience a sudden loss of sexual control with no clear cause, or if PE occurs with chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting. Also seek help if you notice severe mood changes or thoughts of self-harm, as these may signal underlying issues needing prompt care.

For most men, PE is highly treatable. Speaking with a healthcare provider is the first step to understanding what’s contributing to it and finding the right treatment to help you regain confidence, control, and satisfaction.
